Being a black belt to me, means you are good at karate. It means you haven’t just spent a couple of weeks training, it takes 5 years. It takes 5 years of bravery, strength, resilience and persistence.
The black belt isn’t just the color black. It is a symbol. A symbol of strength and persistence to be exact. It isn’t an easy journey to become a black belt. It takes years of vigorous training and hard work. At one point, I didn’t think I was going to do it. I just wanted to quit. But now that I’ve realized that I had to believe, I think I can do it.
When I was a white belt, I thought everything looked too easy But when I trained my first time, it was harder than I expected it to be. I felt like a polar bear without its parents. I had no clue what to do when I realized everything was hard. I learned a lot of the katas and curriculum straight away. I thought all the kids learned them that quickly but I was wrong. I quickly recognized straight away that I was at an advantage. From then on, I thought it would be easy but it still was very hard getting to the point I am at now. A huge reason I kind of got a head start, is my brother did karate and he kind of inspired me a bit. When I was doing Amerikick 2, I already knew a bit of Amerikick 4 because my brother was doing it.
As you can see, it was a hard journey to get to the point I am at now. I will keep going until I achieve my black belt. If I do, it will be a memory remembered in my life. This is my essay of what it means to be a black belt to me.
